Core Stability



Is Core Stability Important?

Core stability is another latest trend from American businessmen who have nothing better to do than dream up endless new ways of getting people back in to their health clubs and gyms.

Core Stability work refers to training that is centered around the abdominal trunk, obliques and lower back. Doing Core Stability work such as crunches and the obliques on a Swiss Ball is fine. However, you cannot in your wildest dreams put people on the Swiss Ball and make them to do, say, Dumbbell Presses, as this goes against every single principle of weight training since time in memoriam, and has nothing remotely to do with Core Stability work. It is a ridiculous and dangerous practice which is paraded by the idiots who appear on Sky television under the guise of "health and fitness".

The whole idea which underpins weight training is to have a bench with a back support which is there to stabilize you so that you can correctly and safely control the movement in order that you can keep the dumbbells on the right plane of movement, rather than ending up with the dumbbells and back contorted and twisted out of alignment while you struggle to press the weight. Serious injury could easily occur as a result of this crazy practice.

As long as you are correctly working the abs, lower back, and obliques in your weight training programme then you will not have any Core Stability problems.
